I’ll be the first to say it…I love a thrifted find, I love changing up our home and I love a good revamp.
A few months back we painted our tired kitchen table a bold black and I switched out our mix-matched dining chairs for some marketplace Brentwood vintage chairs. And although they are aesthetically beautiful they are not the most practical for our little family. I started to hunt for the perfect chairs. I knew I wanted something vintage, something with a European farm vibe, but I didn’t want to pay the price of $600 I found online.
In comes my newest marketplace score. A set of 4 wooden chairs for $60. Yes they are orange stained, yes they are older and maybe not the exact replica of my dream chairs, but with a little paint I was sure I could transform them.
My initial intent was to just spray paint them with my favourite black spray paint, as the alternative was to use a chalk paint – and if you know me I DESPISE chalk paint.
In comes some amazing suggestions from my IG followers to try ‘Fusion Mineral Paint’. I was very sceptical about trying “another paint” but after researching it that night, seeing a ton of before and afters, I decided I would give it a try.
I woke up early the next morning and rushed to a small antique and treasure shop about 45mins from my home and grabbed myself a bottle of of the new stuff.
I had read that it was super important to use the ‘Ultra Grip’ to begin with especially if you don’t want to take a ton of time sanding each area of the furniture piece. It goes on a milky white and dries clear.
Once that dried overnight I started with the paint. Let me tell you, it went on amazing, smoother than a melamine paint, easy to work with and dried in about 15mins. It also has a built in topcoat.
Two coats later and I couldn’t be happier. The chairs have completely transformed. It takes up to 20 days for the paint to fully cure and for now I am going to let them sit for 7 days before brining them in to use around our table. I cannot wait to paint another piece of furniture in our space. Next up, I need to find 2 more chairs for each ends of the table.
